Castle and Moat

from American Drab by Nick Evans

/

lyrics

You woke me like a record player
on a dusty shelf tucked away
Then you spilled all your hopes and fears
on a mundane and bright Saturday
I’ll be the one to make whole again
the glass you let slip from your hold
I’ll be the one to tell all your friends
we met before we knew how to love

With time on the run,
a flightless fool’s song
will conquer and storm
your castle and moat

You teased out the best in me;
of that I’ll always be sure
You, you danced your own symphony
to the pain in every dissonant note
I’ll be the one to make whole again
the glass you let slip from your hold
I’ll be the one to tell all your friends;
we met, then we learned how to love

With time on the run,
a flightless fool’s song
will conquer and storm
your castle and moat

Decisions and turns
pushed us to the brink
I begged you to stay
cause I was just moving in
We're far past our prime;
at least that's what they'll spin
When my arms became tired,
you pulled me back in
